Chinese National Championships: Wan Letian, Zhang Zhanshuo Lead Olympic Qualifiers

Chinese National Championships: Wan Letin, Zhang Zhanshuo Lead Olympic Qualifiers

Four swimmers qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics on Monday during the fourth day of the Chinese National Championships.

Wan Letian and Wang Xueer qualified in the women’s 100-meter backstroke, while Zhang Zhanshuo and Fei Liwei made the team in the men’s 800 freestyle.

Zhang Zhanshuo got to the wall in 7:47.84 to earn the gold medal in the 800 freestyle and qualify for Paris at the Chinese National Championships. Fei Liwei took the silver and qualified in 7:47.86. The bronze medal went to Zhao Zhihao (7:59.11).

In the women’s 100 backstroke, gold went to Wan Letian in 59.02, just ahead of Wang Xueer (59.61), who also qualified. Peng Xuwei was a tenth of a second behind in 59.71 to take the bronze medal.

The women’s 100 freestyle semifinals saw a group of fast swims to set up the finals. Yang Junxuan took the top seed in 53.00, followed by Zhang Yufei (53.27), Wu Qingfeng (53.40), Li Bingjie (53.55). Cheng Yujie (53.66) and Yu Yiting (54.10).

The men’s 100 free semifinals saw Pan Zhanle take the top seed in 47.54, followed by Chen Juner (48.39), Liu Wudi (48.55) and Wang Haoyu (48.60).

In the men’s 200 breaststroke semifinals, Qin Haiyang took the top seed in 2:10.05, followed by Dong Zhihao (2:11.17) and Luan Honglin (2:14.37).

The semifinals of the men’s 200 butterfly saw Wang Xizhe take the top seed in 1:58.33, followed by Song Mingxuan (1:59.87) and Chen Nuo (2:00.03).

Li Bingjie also scratched the 1500 freestyle at the Chinese National Championships but is still eligible to qualify with her time from worlds.
